INDO-SKYTHIANS. Azes, circa 58-12 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 2.29 g, 12 h), Indian standard, uncertain mint in western Gandhara. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ / ΑΖΟΥ King on horseback to right, holding spear. Rev. Maharajasa rajarajasa mahatasa Ayasa' ('of Great King, King of Kings Azes the Great' in Kharoshthi) Athena advancing left, holding shield on her left arm and brandishing thunderbolt with her right; to left, monogram; to right, Kharoshthi letter 'a'. HGC 12, 646. Senior 90.20D. Beautifully toned. Very fine.
